It’s been a stay-at-home, putter-around, bake-brownies, wear-PJs and finish-reading-my-mystery kind of day. Sunny, not too hot, not too cool, quiet. Very nice, really.
At 3:00 p.m. our friends came to pick up my older son for a few games of Magic the Gathering, and my mother-in-law stopped by to pick up the cat carrier she leant to us last month. I liked the same-timeness of their visits, though each stayed just long enough to share a few laughs near the garden.
Once the house was quiet again I got the cleaning bug. The clear plate behind our oven’s knobs looks almost new and the dining table and chairs are minus more than a few evidences of past meals.
My younger son, having done his chores and schoolwork, has been on the computer a while, with head phones on. From my perch on the couch, while meandering around on the interwebs, I’ve been listening to an autumn evening unfold.
About half an hour ago I also heard a knock at the door. Our friends, who recently moved back to the area after more than ten years away, were out for a walk and stopped by to say Hey. I made a speedy visit to my room, changed into real clothes, then invited our friends in for brownies. It wasn’t a long visit either, but it was good; we made dinner plans for next week.
Now I’m eating a simple dinner, noodles with broccoli and tuna, sitting on the couch again, being quiet. Three pleasant visits in one afternoon has made an already kind day very sweet.
In Little Women, the sisters often went visiting. It was part of the culture, expected perhaps. All the same, it sounds lovely.
